Coloration Systems Color Hardener consists of graded silica aggregates, cement, and mineral oxide pigments. When blended together, these materials become a dry, shake-on, colored cement that is used for coloring and hardening all types of concrete flatwork. It is specifically formulated for use in the installation of decorative concrete paving and flooring that is imprinted with a pattern and/or texture.
Basic Use: Coloration
Systems Color Hardener is a ready- to-use, dry-shake material used
for coloring and conditioning new concrete floors, decks, walkways,
imprinted concrete and other types of architectural paving surfaces.
It may be mixed with water to a stucco consistency and used to face
freshly poured risers and curbing. If a curing compound is desired,
care should be used to select one that will be compatible with any
final stain or seal coat that may be applied.
Limitation: Dry-shake
Color Hardener performs best on horizontal surfaces. Extensive vertical
surface applications should be avoided. Coloration Systems Heavy Duty
Color Hardener should be used on surfaces subject to heavy vehicular
traffic. Coloration Systems Color Hardener is designed and formulated
to be applied ONLY by licensed contractors who are trained in the
field of Architectural Concrete Paving.

Materials: Coloration
Systems Color Hardener is a blend of color pigments, portland cement,
and hard, graded silica aggregates. It is formulated to exhibit a
high degree of resistance to U.V. sunlight. Enhanced durability characteristics
may be achieved through the use of Coloration Systems Heavy Duty Color
Hardener. Heavy Duty Color Hardener incorporates an emery aggregate
in addition to the silica.
Texturing: Various imprinting
and finishing techniques may be used to achieve surface textures.
All surfaces should be finished with sufficient texture to reduce
slip hazards. Avoid adding water to the surface while finishing. Added
surface water can lead to variation in color after curing.
Shelf Life: Six months
to a year depending on relative humidity. Store in a dry place.
Availability: All regular
grade standard colors are stock items. Heavy Duty Color Hardener is
not a stock item and is available upon request. Minimum Heavy Duty
Color Hardener order is 19 bags. Custom colors are available in both
regular and heavy duty grades (19 bag minimum).
Maintenance: Use mild
detergent or degreaser. Avoid acids if surface has not been coated.
For acid washing, a dilute solution (one part acid to twenty parts
water) should be used. Clean stains immediately. Avoid the use of
solvents on coated surfaces.
Suggested Coating: Coloration Systems Clear Stain.
Resistance to Abrasion: Excellent.
Application: Place desired
concrete mix using applicable concrete placement techniques. Allow
excess bleed water to dissipate and apply Coloration Systems Color
Hardener using the dry-shake method. The Color Hardener should be
applied in two shakes, with two-thirds being applied in the first
shake and the remainder in the second shake. After the first shake,
float the surface of the concrete. Apply the second shake, float and
trowel. The surface is now ready to be imprinted and/or textured as
desired. After initial cure, the surface may be cleaned and coated
with Coloration Systems Clear Stain. Coating is usually recommended,
but not required.
Warranty: This product
is warranted to be of uniform quality within manufacturing tolerances.
Since control is not exercised over its use, no warranty, expressed
or implied, is made as to the effects of such use. Seller’s and manufacturer’s
obligation under this warranty shall be limited to refunding the purchase
price of that portion of the material that is proven to be defective.
